Beach volleyball republic website12/20/2023 ![]() ![]() So when I saw on a post in social media that Beach Volleyball Republic (BVR) will have a tournament in Lakawon, I was quite excited to get the opportunity to shoot a game that was closer to home. I have been trying to figure out for some time a schedule so I could go and see a few games live. BVR co-founder Bea Tan teaming up with former AdU Lady Falcon Amanda Villanuevaīoracay has hosted tournaments for several summers. The games are always set against a beautiful backdrop of white sand, clear waters, and blue skies… and if you’re really lucky, a fiery breathtaking sunset. On the upside, there was no shortage of light. Even before the games for day 1 ended, I was sunburnt. ![]() It was really hot and I constantly had to wipe off the salty sweat invading my eyes in between focusing. I should have paid more attention to the games on TV before going to an actual game. There were only four people in the court but I couldn’t figure out their movements for me to anticipate my shots. My old trusty and plasticky telephoto will do nicely without it having to struggle low light. I got this! Lighting won’t be a problem this time around since it’s outdoor. ![]() How different could beach volleyball be? Other than it has less players running around in smaller sand court? It’s basically the same. It took me sometime to learn the dynamics of indoor volleyball before I churned out decent photos. ![]()
